We reached a landmark moment this summer as our 2009 Green Girls became the first team in PPA history to win a USYS Eastern Regional Championship. Right behind them, the 2010 Green Girls battled their way to the Regional Final, making this the most impressive postseason display yet for our Premier Program.
Both teams earned their spot at Regionals by winning the Maryland State Cup. The 2009s claimed their second straight title, while the 2010s captured their first, joining a proud list of past champions. PPA teams have now won 9 State Cups historically, a testament to our club’s sustained excellence.
2009 Green Girls: First-Ever Regional Champions
Their Regional run was awesome: a 1–0 win over AC Connecticut, a dominant 5–1 performance against UST FC, and a 3–1 win over RNYFC in group play. They then defeated Deptford Premier FC, a seasoned semifinalist with a history of playoff success, by the same score. The title came with a hard-fought 3–1 victory in the final against nationally-ranked CFC Ole Academy, currently rated among the Top 10 teams in the country.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” said Coach Kyler afterward. “The best part about it is that they worked so hard from—I want to say the beginning of the year—but really from when they were 6, 7, 8 years old. A lot of them have been here forever... I couldn’t think of a better sports book ending.”
Next stop: the National Championships in Orlando (July 22–27), where the 2009s will represent PPA and Maryland on the national stage.
2010 Green Girls: Regional Finalists and State Cup Champs
The 2010s earned their State Cup win with commanding performances: 4–1 over SAC Pre-Academy, 4–0 against Brausa United, 5–0 versus MD Rush, and a 3–0 semifinal win over Liverpool FCIA before finishing Baltimore Union 1–0 in the final. At Regionals, they opened with an impressive 8–0 win over Flash Binghamton DPL, followed by victories against WVFC and Warriors 2010. A 1–1 draw with NJ Nationals sent them to the final, where they narrowly fell to 1776 United in a 2–1 match.
A Club Built to Compete and Win
These wins weren’t an accident. They’re the result of years of hard work, steady growth, and a team culture that’s grounded in competition. PPA’s Premier Soccer Program is designed for players who want more: more reps, more challenges, more opportunities to rise to the occasion.
Throughout the year, our Premier teams test themselves in high-level leagues and tournaments, from local matchups to elite regional showcases. That kind of year-round competition prepares players for moments like these — and it showed up all postseason long. In the big games, under pressure, our teams brought intensity, focus, and grit from start to finish.
We’re proud of our 2009 and 2010 teams and proud of the environment that shaped them into champions.
And there’s more to come: with new gear and experience partnerships launching this fall, including Nike, GA Aspire, and Soccer.com, we’re continuing to level up our identity and support for every Premier player.
Looking Ahead
The 2009 Green Girls will represent PPA and Maryland at the USYS National Championships in Orlando, July 22–27. Meanwhile, the 2010s and other Premier teams return stronger, emboldened by regional experience and competition.
