Parent FAQ
Q: Does this program include weekend games, or is it just afterschool practices?
A: By filling out this form, you are registering and paying for your child to participate in afterschool programming. To participate in weekend games, you would need to indicate in the form that you would like to play in games, and if enough players opt in, we will form a team to participate in weekend games.
Q: If I don't want to participate in weekend games, what can I expect from the afterschool programming?
A: If you fill out this form, and choose not to opt into the weekend games, you can expect your child to attend the afterschool practices where players will work for an hour with PPA coaches on the 3 phases of sport: physical, technical, and tactical. Coaches will group players based on level and follow a game-based curriculum which emphasize skill and technique development, while also keeping players engaged and having fun!
Q: If I opt in for the games, what can I expect?
A: If you indicate in this form that you'd like to opt into games, you can expect to get an email from a PPA Director before the season starts letting you know if enough players have opted in to form a team. If so, we will then provide the registration steps required to form the team to play in the PPA Development League. Once the team is formed, you can expect to to have your child participate in weekday practices afterschool with a PPA Coach, and the weekend games with the other players from Woods Academy who joined the team. There are 8 weekend games which culminate in an end-of season tournament to crown a champion.
Q: Who would we play against in weekend games?
A: Teams are organized by grade and gender. If we form a team for The Woods Academy you will be matched up against other school-based or neighborhood based teams from the Bethesda + DC region.
Q: Who would coach the games?
A: If enough kids express interest in forming a team, we will send a follow up email to those parents asking if anyone would like to volunteer to serve as a coach for the weekend games. If no one wants to serve as a parent coach, no problem, we'll assign your team a professional PPA coach.
Q:Is there an additional cost to play in the games?
A: Yes. Pricing depends on the coach and sport. To play in Soccer Games with a Pro Coach is an additional $175, with a Parent Coach an additional $100. To play in Basketball Games with a Pro Coach is $220, and with a Parent Coach $100.
