  Registration Process:

  • How do I register my child?

    • Simply fill out the Interest Form to sign up and note your preferences. No payment is required at this stage.

  • What happens after I fill out the form?

    • "We will review all registrations between August 1st and August 10th. By August 15th, we’ll send out team details, practice and game info, and information on ordering the new jerseys."

  • Is there a deadline to register?

    • "Yes, please complete the interest form by August 1st to ensure your child is placed on a team."

  Team Formation:

  • How are teams formed? "Teams are formed based on grade level and friend requests. We aim to group children with their classmates to enhance the team experience."

  • Can my child be on the same team as their friends? "Yes, you can request friends to be on the same team in the registration form."

  Coaching:

  • How is coaching handled? "Parents can indicate if they want to volunteer as a coach on the registration form. If any parents volunteer, we will create a parent-led team for that grade. If no parents volunteer, we will create a professionally coached team."

  • Can I choose if my child is placed on a parent-coached or pro-coached team? "Not with the school team pool. Teams are formed based on whether any parents volunteer to coach. If you want to guarantee your child is on a pro-coached or parent-coached team, you will need to form your own team and choose the coaching type. In that case, you will need to fill the team’s roster by inviting other players to join."

  Programming:

  • What is included in the season? "The season includes regular practices, games, and school-themed jerseys. Specific details about practice schedules and game times will be provided once teams are formed."

  • Who is the league open to? "The league is open to all Janney Elementary students. We encourage participation from students of all skill levels, whether they are new to the sport or experienced players."

  • Where will games be played? "Games will be played at or near Janney Elementary, as well as other local fields and courts within the DC and MoCo region."

  • What is the competitive environment of the league? "The league focuses on friendly, competitive play. Our goal is to provide an environment that promotes sportsmanship, skill development, and teamwork. While we aim to foster a competitive spirit, the emphasis is on fun and growth for all players."

  Practices and Games:

  • Where and when will practices be held? "Practices will be organized at or near Janney Elementary. Specific schedules will be provided once teams are formed."

  • What if we have specific practice schedule requests? "Parents can indicate their preferred practice days and times on the registration form. We will do our best to accommodate these requests."

  Uniforms:

  • Will there be team uniforms? "Yes, we will provide custom Janney-themed jerseys for the players. Information on ordering jerseys will be sent out with team details."

Soccer Program

Q6: What are the different soccer leagues offered? A: We offer the following soccer leagues:

• Kindergarten League: 'Kid Ball' with age-appropriate games and activities.

• 1st Grade League: 4v4 games.

• 2nd & 3rd Grade League: 5v5 games with goalies.

• 4th & 5th Grade League: 7v7 games on bigger fields.

• 6th-8th Grade League: Competitive play with 11v11 games.

Q7: What is the cost for the soccer program? A:

• Kindergarten League: Free

• 1st Grade League: $0 for parent-volunteer coaches, $300 for professional coaches.

• 2nd & 3rd Grade League: $100 for parent coaching, $400 for professional coaching.

• 4th & 5th Grade League: $100 for parent coaching, $400 for professional coaching.

Basketball Program

Q14: What equipment is required for the programs? A:

• Soccer: Shin guards, soccer cleats, and a soccer ball appropriate for the child's age.

• Basketball: Basketball shoes and a basketball appropriate for the child's age. We provide jerseys and other necessary equipment.

Q15: How are teams formed? A: Teams are formed based on grade levels, with an effort to balance skill levels to ensure competitive play. Requests for specific teammates or coaches will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.

Q16: What safety measures are in place? A: We follow all local health guidelines and ensure proper safety equipment is used. Our coaches are trained in first aid and CPR, and we have a strict concussion protocol in place.
