As we wrap up the fall season, PPA’s Premier Teams continue to deliver standout performances on the field and court. The weekend of November 16-17 saw our athletes competing in prestigious soccer tournaments and high-energy basketball matchups, showcasing the hard work, teamwork, and skill that define PPA. With championship wins, finalist finishes, and thrilling games, it’s been an incredible season so far!
Premier Soccer Brings the Heat
PPA’s Premier Soccer teams showed their mettle across three major tournaments, taking on elite competition in the Bethesda Premier Cup, Columbia Fall Classic, and Nation’s Capital Cup.
At the Bethesda Premier Cup, one of the country’s top youth soccer events, the competition was fierce. But the 2011 Green team rose to the challenge, bringing home the championship under the leadership of Bupe and Onyema. Playing against some of the best teams in the Mid-Atlantic region, they delivered a flawless performance, cementing their place as one of the tournament’s standout teams.
The Columbia Fall Classic provided an exciting end-of-season stage, and PPA teams didn’t disappoint. The 2010 Blue boys, led by Ronaldo, powered their way to the title, showcasing grit and teamwork. Meanwhile, the 2015 Yellow I boys, coached by Chris Vaccaro, fought valiantly to earn a finalist finish, capping off a fantastic fall campaign.
At the Nation’s Capital Cup, our girls’ teams took center stage. The 2012 Blue girls, led by Yannick, and the 2015 Green girls, coached by Onyema, battled their way to the finals. Their determination and skill were on full display, making their teams and coaches proud.
Premier Hoops Makes Its Mark
Not to be outdone, PPA’s Premier Hoops teams put on a show at the Charm City Thanksgiving Hoopfest, one of the most competitive basketball tournaments of the year.
The 6th Green Girls, coached by Destini Parker, brought their A-game all weekend. In their championship game against Olney Elite, Anna Wind led the way with dominant steals and rebounds, showcasing her incredible versatility and earning the team a hard-fought 37-30 victory.
Coach Parker wasn’t finished yet, guiding the 8th Blue Girls to another championship win, this time against PV Thunder. Co-MVPs Maia Shakow and Emma Rankin were a dynamic duo, locking down on defense and leading the team in scoring as they powered their way to the top.
The boys weren’t left out of the spotlight, with the 6th Green Boys, coached by Drake, going undefeated and pulling off a thrilling win over Olney Elite. MVP Graham Brower was the star of the game, delivering clutch performances on both ends of the court to help his team lift the trophy.
